14. package of EU sanctions

The Council of the EU adopted on 24th June 2024, the 14th package of sanctions against Russia for its military aggression against Ukraine.

The package includes important new energy-related measures targeting liquefied natural gas (LNG) and measures targeting ships. With regard to LNG, the package bans all future investments in LNG projects involving Russia. The use of the EU ports for transshipment of Russian LNG will also be prohibited after a nine-month transition period. In addition, it bans the import of Russian LNG to certain terminals that are not connected to the EU pipeline network.

For the first time, the EU has also adopted measures targeting specific vessels contributing to Russia’s hostilities against Ukraine, which are subject to port access and service bans.
