Convention on International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships entered into force

On 17 February, 2026, the UN Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships (known as the Beijing Convention) entered into force. The Convention introduces a globally coordinated framework aimed at increasing legal certainty in cross-border transactions involving ships by creating a harmonized and simplified system for recognizing cross-border judicial sales of ships.

The Beijing Convention was developed by the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). It should also be mentioned that CMI, of which the Polish Maritime Law Association is a member, also participated in the work on this act. The Polish Maritime Law Association includes, among others, lawyers from CMW Legal.
