On 29 June 2024, Regulation (EU) 2024/1735 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 June 2024, on establishing a framework of measures to strengthen the European ecosystem for the production of carbon-neutral technologies and amending Regulation (EU) 2018/1724 (the so-called NZIA Regulation), entered into force.
The NZIA Regulation is an initiative derived from the Green Deal Industrial Plan that aims to scale up the production of clean technologies in the EU. This means increasing the EU’s production capacity for technologies that support the transition to clean energy and that emit very low, zero or negative amounts of greenhouse gases when used.
The aim is that by 2030, the EU will be able to meet at least 40% of its annual demand for carbon-neutral technologies. This will accelerate progress towards the 2030 climate and energy targets and the transition to climate neutrality by 2050.
