Under the Decision of the EU Council no. 2024\/632 of 19th February 2024, the European Union maritime security operation was launched to restore and secure freedom of navigation for ships in the wake of the Red Sea crisis.<\/p>\n

As part of Operation ASPIDES, the EU countries’ naval vessels will accompany and protect ships in an area where merchant ships have been the target of numerous Houthi attacks since October 2023.<\/p>\n
