On 30th<\/sup> May 2024, the Council of the European Union adopted a directive promoting the repair of broken or defective goods, the so-called Right to Repair Directive (R2RD), which will make it easier for consumers to seek repair of goods instead of replacement, and make repair services cheaper, simpler, faster and transparent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new regulations are intended to help reduce the number of electro-waste items and encourage manufacturers to design equipment to be more durable and repairable, and then – in line with the principle of a closed-loop economy – reusable and recyclable. 
The directive enters into force on the twentieth day following its publication in the Official Journal of the EU, which took place on 10th<\/sup> July 2024. From then on, the Member States will have 24 months to implement it into national law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
