On 13 December 2024, the GPSR became effective. The main objective of the regulation is to increase the safety of non-food products, both new and used, repaired or refurbished products intended for consumers by implementing modern standards and harmonising regulations across the EU.
The GPSR expands the scope of obligations imposed on entrepreneurs by: establishing internal product safety processes to ensure compliance with GPSR regulations, cooperating with market surveillance authorities to eliminate or reduce risks associated with products placed on the market, making detailed product information (risks, complaints, corrective measures) available to the relevant authorities upon request for a period of 10 years and information on supply chain traceability for a period of six years, providing information to the relevant authorities on accidents caused by a product, offering consumers at least two of the following remedies in the event of a recall: product repair or replacement or refund.
